Thangal bazar remains shut to protest killing

IMPHAL, Mar 25 : All the shops in Thangal Bazar remained shut today in protest against the killing of a non-local yesterday afternoon by unknown gunmen.

Regarding the closing down of the shops, Mahesh, who is a shopkeeper of a clothing store in Alugali, said that the shops were closed down voluntarily as a mark of strong protest against the shooting incident and no one forced them to shut down the shops. He also added that such sudden killings without any warning or reason were very unfortunate and the continuation of such killings was creating fear for life among the common people.

In relation to the killing, MLA Radhabinod Koijam expressed that to take public responsibility should be the first priority of the government and such killings in the capital city showed not only that the government could not protect the public but also also that it had failed in maintaining law and order.

He added that he was surprised that burglars often operated during curfew hours in the bazar area.
