Drug dealers threaten shop shutdown

IMPHAL, May 7 : Manipur is all set to see another bout of medicine scarcity as wholesalers and retailers of drugs today threatened to close down all shops if a monetary demands served on them by a particular armed group is not withdrawn.
Drug wholesalers in Imphal had down shutters on 2 May, 2009 following, what they called, "unbearable monetary demands" made on them by proscribed Kangleipak Communist Party (Military Council). On Monday, they were, however, forced to open their shops by police who had to resort to breaking locks of some of the whole sale shops. Pharmaceutical drug dealers today took to street holding a 10 to 4 sit-in-protest at Keishampat to demand withdrawal of the demand. The protest was led by Manipur Chemist and druggist Association. According to reports, KCP (MC) had demanded Rs 10 lakh from the drug dealers to be paid by 30 April.
