Imphal, May 13 : A massive search operations launched by the combined forces of central security forces and the Manipur police force in Keibul Lamjao National Park in Loktak Lake in south Manipur has recovered two more dead bodies of non-locals killed on Monday by militants.

With this latest developmewnt, altogether seven dead bodies of non-locals have been recovered so far. It is believed that nine non-Manipuris (non-locals) had been killed on Monday by unidentified armed persons in the area.

Meanwhile, hundreds of villagers of the Khordak area nearest village to the spot where the dead bodies recovered, have fled their home-steads for the second time in the last one month.

A little less than a month ago the villagers fled to elsewhere when the army had launched “Operation Summer Storm” against the militants in the area.

Today's search operation was launched by the combined team of security forces following the revelation made by one non-local hailing from Silchar and currently residing at Hatta Golapati, Imphal who according to his statement to the police, is the lone survivor of the massacre of non-locals by the militants on Tuesday.

Most of the victims seem to be the Bangladeshi Muslims even though police are yet to ascertained on their nationalities.

A non-local who survived the massacre reportedly reached Imphal at late night on Monday and surrendered to the Imphal East district police station.

The Imphal East police in turn immediately informed their counterpart district police in Thoubal and Bishnupur and thereby launched the search operation with the Assam Rifles in the area since last night.

The lone survivor could not be contacted to get hand report of how the gruesome incident had happened as he has been already taken away by the police to the spot where security forces personnel are launching operation to hunt other men abducted together with the survivor.

All the dead bodies have been deposited at the morgue of Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) in Imphal.
