Imphal, Apr 25 : Functioning at government offices continued to be seriously hit as an indefinite ceasework agitation, launched by Manipur government employees since January 16, was on.
Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and the State Cabinet had stated time and again that the government had no resource to meet the demands of the employees.
The agitators, under the banner of the Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Union Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees Organisation (AMGEO), demanded adoption of the Sixth Pay Commission recommendations from April 1, 2006 whereas the government had decided to implement the pay package from April 1, 2010.
The employees of the State Secretariat also joined the agitation for the seventh day today. Employees of the treasury office are also supporting the stir. Taking photographs of pensioners have stopped, only some employees were working today at the Treasury office under protection.
Though the Chief Minister said the state government cannot even pay arrears of few months, the employees pointed out that the government was not sincere and it had the money to meet the demands of the employees.
Work in all government offices was seriously affected due to the stir. Three Cabinet ministers, Th Devendra, Phungzathang Tonsing and L Jayentakumar, have been asked by the Chief Minister to meet the employees and resolve the crisis.
