Political parties, NGOs for early solution to Manipur crisis

Imphal | Thursday, May 14

Political parties of Manipur and NGOs today appealed to all to restore normalcy in the state in the wake of the turmoil the state was facing due to the decision of (National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) leader Th Muivah to visit Manipur.

A Central BJP team has reached Imphal and another team of Left parties is expected soon. Union Home Secretary GK Pillai and RS Pandey, interlocutor for the Centre in the NSCN-IM peace talks, arrived in Imphal on Tuesday and left yesterday for Nagaland where they met the NSCN (IM) leader to discuss the imbroglio in the border areas of Manipur.

Two students died on May six last at Mao, the border town of Manipur, when police clashed with protestors. The BJP, NCP, CPI(M), RSP, Forward Bloc and Manipur Peoples' Party (MPP) have opposed the proposed visit of the rebel leader to Manipur. The BJP has also appealed to all to maintain communal harmony.

State Cabinet met four times to discuss the issue and resolved to oppose Th Muivah's visit 'in any form' to Manipur and to request the Centre to call off his proposed visit to the state.
