Rs 3,456 cr loss incurred due to bandhs, blockades : CM

Imphal, Jul 9 : Manipur has witnessed 524 bandhs and 104 economic blockades so far, while losses due to such agitations had been assessed at Rs 3,456 crore during the past 15 years.

Informing this to the Assembly here today, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh said the state suffered losses worth Rs five-six crore on a daily basis on 'bandh' days and Rs two-three core due to blockades on national highways.

He said ''actions'' would be taken against those who organise blockades and bandhs. ''Moreover, since the Border Road Organisation (BRO) had not been maintaining National Highway-53. The state government has decided to take over the works for maintenance. The state Public Work Department (PWD) has been entrusted with such responsibilities,'' he added.
