Manipur trade unions to support nationwide strike tomorrow

Imphal, Sep 7 : Over 90 organisations from Manipur will support a nationwide dawn to dusk general strike tomorrow to protest price rise.

Convener of the Co-ordination Committee of Trade Unions L Sotinkumar said the strike has been called from 0600 hrs to 1800 hrs to protest price rise, violation of labour laws and disinvestment of public sector units (PSUs) by eight major trade unions, mostly of the Left Front.

Over 90 organisations, including women, labourers, rickshaw pullers from Manipur, will support the strike, Sotin said.

Price hike of essential commodities should be rolled back, he demanded.

Prices of diesel, petrol and LPG were hiked recently but the people of Manipur have to buy petrol from the black market at Rs 80 per litre, diesel at Rs 70 per litre and LPG refilled cylinder at Rs 1500, he said.
