IMPHAL, Sept 9 – A four-day workshop on listing and documentation of natural heritage on Manipur, organized by the Indian National Trust for Arts and Cultural Heritage (INTACH), Manipur Chapter, has identified around 100 tentative sites of this State for documentation and subsequent recommendation as National and World Heritage sites.
Some of the heritage sites identified in Manipur’s Imphal West district include Konthoujam Lairembi, Langol Lairembi Greens, Sekmai, Imphal City and the Kangla, among others.
“These sites would be screened for proper documentation later,” Dr RK Ranjan, convenor of INTACH Manipur Chapter, said. Those who attended the workshop suggested a number of sites across the State during the valedictory function on Wednesday.
S Singsit, Principal Chief Conservator of Forest attending the valedictory function held on Tuesday as chief guest, said his department is making all out effort to include the rare deer Sangai’s last habitat Keibul Lamjao National Park as one of the world heritage sites.
