NIPCO celebrates 10th foundation day

Imphal, Sep 14 : National Identity Protection Committee (NIPCO) celebrated its 10th foundation day at Manipur Press Club today.

Prof W Nabakumar of Manipur University and NIPCO President L Khupler Kom were the chief guest and functional president respectively.

NIPCO Advisor Dr Ch Rajketan, Zeliangrong Union (Manipur, Nagaland, Assam) Advisor R Chandra Haomei, Komrem Union (NE India) President JL Karoung Kom, Aimol Tribe Union Manipur President Athoi Bungte and Jametul Ulama Manipur President Moulana Shahid were also present on the occasion as guests of honour.

Delivering his speech, Prof W Nabakumar said that although people from different communities have been living together in the State peacefully, the idea of hill-valley divide was first sensed during British reign in Manipur.

Nabakumar added that they spread communal venom so that they could rule the State easily.

He observed that Manipuris started losing their identity and strength gradually after getting independence from British yoke and merging to the Indian union.

Now the State is still dependant in almost all aspects, he added.

Social activist RK Ranendrajit also spoke in the function as a special invitee.

He observed that the State is currently reeling under a serious psychological war.

With keeping the draconian AFSPA alive in a State like Manipur, Ranendrajit opined, the Central Government is providing advantage to security forces which in turn bring lots of harassment and killings of innocent people.

Taking a dig on BJP, the social activist said that the political party is taking the people of North East as strangers by suggesting to give more teeth to the draconian Act.
