UCM supports agitation against Kunjabihari killing

IMPHAL: The United Committee Manipur (UCM), while extending support to a local pressure group's ongoing agitation against the recent gunning down of Manipur board of secondary education chairman Naorem Kunjabihari, has demanded the government book the culprits at the earliest.

Suspected underground cadres gunned down Kunjabihari (60) of Kakwa area in Imphal West inside his office at the high-security Babuparain in Imphal on January 11.

The joint action committee formed by Kakwa locals against the incident warned of launching a rigid agitation if the government failed to hand over the investigation into the incident to the CBI and nab the killers by Tuesday.

A conglomerate of several civil bodies of the state, the UCM pledged support to any kind of stir initiated by the joint action committee.

Besides the UCM, three prominent student bodies have also joined the local pressure group's stir.

On January 17, the JAC suspended its stir after the government assured it would hand over the investigation to the CBI if the police failed to apprehend the killers at the earliest.

Since the cops could not establish a lead in the investigation, the pressure group resorted to intensifying the stir. On Monday, large number of students demonstrated at the capital against the killing by sporting black badges.
