Manipur police likely to visit Bangalore

Bangalore, March 25, DHNS:

A police team from Manipur is likely to visit the City to probe the Bangalore connection in the brutal murder of Rozer Irom, a student from the City, in the north-eastern state on March 20.

“The incident has generated much heat in Manipur as a minister’s relative is suspected to be behind the murder. Pressure is mounting on the police and the government to thoroughly investigate the incident and a team of police officers is likely to come to Bangalore,” a police officer in the City Crime Branch told Deccan Herald. Relatives and friends of 18-year-old Irom rubbished the “love angle” saying he was not in love with any girl, and therefore, the question of him being involved with a girl, whom the minister’s relative too loved, did not arise. Irom’s friends Najeeb and Shafeeque said there might be other reasons for the murder since Irom was friendly with many people and did not have any enemies in Bangalore or in Manipur. “It would be wrong to say that he came to Bangalore as he had enemies in Manipur,” they said. The Bangalore Manipur Students’ Association has called upon NGOs and Manipur students to strongly condemn the murder. The association’s office-bearers have requested students to make united efforts in pressuring authorities to initiate stern action against the perpetrators  of the crime. Irom, a first year BA student, was allegedly shot dead by N Ajai Meitei (27) at Kwakeithel in Imphal West district. The murder hogged the limelight as Ajai is the son of N Biren Singh, the Manipur Minister for Irrigation, Flood Control and Sports.
