Rozer Irom, the Manipuri student studying in the City, who was shot dead on a visit to his home town, Imphal, is suspected to have been killed by a man related to a minister in the Manipuri state government. A few of Irom’s friends, seeking anonymity told Deccan Herald that Irom who hailed from a rich family had a number of enemies and moved out of Imphal owing to a threat to his life.
His enemies, they suspected, might have executed the plan with the help of the minister’s kin, who, according to rumours, was in love with the same girl as Irom.
Irom’s father, Lokender Singh is a businessman, while mother Chitradevi is a government employee. Irom lived in Sultanpalya with one of his relatives while his sister Lemina, is pursuing MBBS in Bangalore.
Brilliant student
Irom, who had completed Class X from Catholic School at Anhipur and Class XII in Science from Council of Higher Secondary Education, Manipur, was known as a brilliant student here and his friends say that he wanted to join the civil services, in the footsteps of his mother.
And his liking for Psychology, his friends said had convinced him to quit his college and apply for Christ University even if that meant him losing an academic year.
In Bangalore, a secure City that kept him “alive” for little over a year, Irom had made enough friends unlike in Manipur.
Before leaving for Imphal a couple of weeks ago, Irom had reportedly told them that he might not see them again.
‘Lot of enemies’
“It is probably my last meeting with you guys, you may not see me ever again,” he is said to have said told a few of them. His friends had, however, not taken his words seriously.
“He sounded tense days before he left for Imphal. He kept mentioning that he had a lot of enemies in Manipur,” Najeeb, a classmate of Irom ’s told Deccan Herald, adding that he had been witness to Irom exchanging heated words with some of his “friends” from Manipur online.
Gloom loomed large over KLE Society’s S Nijalingappa College here as the staff and students learnt about Irom, a second semester student of JPE at the college.
“I was totally shocked and did not know how to react when I heard the news,” Shafeeque, another classmate of Irom said. The College held a meeting on Tuesday to condole Irom’s death.
