Imphal, May 17 (ANI): Highlighting the need for encouraging persons with disabilities to nurture their talents, a cultural festival for physically challenged persons was recently held here.
The festival was organized under the aegis of Department of Art and Culture, Government of Manipur and North East Zone Cultural Centre, Dimapur.
Fifty physically handicapped artists participated in the festival. They were trained before the event in a workshop in different folk and tribal dances of the region.
"We organized this physically challenged workshop to highlight their talent to the people and to bring them in the mainstream of our society," said Dr K Sobota Devi, Director Of Art And Culture of Manipur.
"We organized this workshop for the physically challenged children who are deaf and mute in order to train and teach them and make them to feel that we all are the same," said H Usharani, Headmistress
"I am so happy to see my daughter here it can improve her knowledge because when she stay at home she looks so dull but after coming here she is enjoying herself, is happy and is learning so many things. So it is very good," said Elvind, Parent of an artist
It is not the first time that such a workshop for physically handicapped has been held in Manipur. A few months ago, a campaign under the banner of Badhte Kadam was launched under the aegis of Spastic Society as well.
Disabled people have capabilities that can be tapped at various levels and campaigns like these will go a long way in helping them actualize their potential. (ANI)
