Christians up in arms against hotel plan

IMPHAL: The All Manipur Christian Organization (AMCO) has termed the government's move to set up a five- star hotel in the heart of Imphal by evicting people of a colony as discriminatory and undemocratic.

The government has already begun official work to oust people of the Naga river colony for upgrading Hotel Imphal into a five-star inn. When the hotel located near the colony suffered a huge loss a few years ago, the government had even planned to hand it over to a private company.

Over 600 people belonging to different communities - Naga, Kuki, Meitei and Nepali - are living in the colony. They have been agitating since June 6 to make the government reconsider and revoke its order.
