Imphal, Jul 26: Manipur today experienced heavy rainfall which aggravated the flood situation in the state.
Incessant downpour since past few days resulted in rising water levels of the main rivers.
Large numbers of houses have been inundated at Uripok, Lamphel, Sagolband.
Large tracts of agricultural lands at Imphal West, Thoubal, Imphal East, Bishenpur districts have been flooded.
Those living beside Nambul river are badly affected and many people displaced.
Ministers, local MLAs and officials are touring the flood affected areas regularly.
The 27 Assam Rifles has established the flood relief assistance camps to provide assistance to the affected populace of Nungu, Khogjam and Chairel villages in Sugnu area of Thoubal district.
A major portion of these areas were submerged under flood waters leading to displacement of a substantial number of local people to relief shelters.
Preventive measures are being carried out to avert an outbreak of water borne diseases such as diarrhoea, cholera, anaemia, dengue and dermatological problems.
