Video cameras for Manipur LS polls

Imphal | March 14 : Video cameras will be used in all polling stations in the upcoming parliamentary elections in Manipur especially in the sensitive and hyper sensitive places.

Reliable sources informed that video cameras will be fixed at all polling stations in the state especially in those places that are sensitive or highly sensitive. The sources further informed that the very evening after the voting is done, the video tapes will be taken by the election observer for observation without any editing.

It may be reminded here that a press note of the Press Information Bureau (PIB) on March 5 informed that photo electoral rolls will be used in the state for the first which would duly help in checking identification and impersonation thus preventing any foul play during the elections.

This use of camera also comes after the representatives of all political parties had called upon the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Manipur, Shambhu Singh to install close circuit television (CCTV) at all polling stations in the hill areas so as to ascertain accurately that the voters are casting their votes or not. The sources also informed that there are a total of 2193 polling stations in the state consisting of 970 for the Inner Manipur and 1223 for the Outer Manipur.
