Apunba Lup to continue agitation

Imphal, Oct 5 A leading social organisation in Manipur spearheading an agitation against police for killing a youth in an alleged fake encounter more than two months ago, today said it would continue its stir until Chief Minister Ibobi Singh resigns.

In a statement issued here, Apunba Lup asked for an end to 'state-sponsored terrorism' and sought the cooperation of the people.

The organisation also demanded dismissing those police officials involved in the July 23 killing and strict action against those who tried to cover it.

Official sources said several Apunba Lup leaders have been arrested in the past few weeks and some of them detained under the stringent National Security Act (NSA).

Apunba Lup has been organising sit-ins and rallies across the state since the killing of 27-year-old Chungkham Sanjit at Imphal market complex here. A pregnant woman was also killed.
