Imphal, Dec 3 (PTI) Four candidates, including Congress nominee E Suraj, have filed nomination papers for the December 19 by-election to the prestigious Yaiskul Assembly constituency in Imphal East district of Manipur.
Election office sources said today the last date of filing nomination papers was yesterday.
The seat had fallen vacant after the death of Congress MLA E Kunjakeshore who was the father of E Suraj.
The other three candidates who filed their nomination papers are -- Hanjabam Jaydev (Independent), Soubam Rajen (Janata Dal-Secular) and Aribam Jagadish (Independent).
The counting is scheduled for December 23.
According to experts, the by-election will test the popularity of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh who heads the over two year and nine month-old Congress-led Secular Progressive Front government in the state.
