IMPHAL, Jan 9 : All Manipur College Teachers’ Association has strongly opposed Manipur government’s order directing S Geeta Devi to take the charge as chairperson of the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur.
A statement of the AMCTA said a meeting of the executive committee held today at Oriental College, Imphal has seriously viewed the government order dated December 19, 2009 directing S Geeta Devi to join as chairperson of CHSEM.
It further said government’s fresh order came in the midst of AMCTA’s demand to revoke the order directing additional director of education (s) as chairperson-in-charge of the CHSEM, which was made against the existing norms.
While asserting that Manipur Higher Secondary Education (Amendment) Act, 1995 had no section to appoint adhoc chairmen/chairperson of the CHSEM, the AMCTA alleged that government’s action has violated the Act and an attempt to tarnish the image of the council.
Stating that education should be not be politicize and the right step should be taken up after thorough discussion for the sake of future generation, the AMCTA also appealed to members of the Manipur Legislative Assembly not to support the Manipur Higher Secondary Education (2nd amendment) bill which is proposed to be taken up in the upcoming seating of the state assembly.
It further asked state government to review its decision for the step taken up against the interest of the teachers could be a disastrous one for education sector in the state.
