Tamenglong, Feb 21 : The media team, from Union ministry of home affairs (media wing), that arrived here in Imphal on Wednesday last for three day visit to the state is led by director of Union ministry of home affairs (media wing), Rabindra Singh has left Imphal today concluding their visit in the state.
During their stay in the state, they took stoke of the impact of the insurgency in Manipur.
They met with top officials of the Army, police and other security forces deploying in the state.
They also took comments and observation of the general people.
The team accompanied by some local media persons visited some schools in Bishnupur to take stoke of government schools.
They also met with principals of the schools, SP Bishnupur and CO of 33 Assam Rifles camping at Sendra Tourist home.
While visiting the border town Moreh on the next, on the way they held interaction with villagers of Heirok in Thoubal district where Special Police Officers (SPOs) are helping IRB men protecting the villagers after undergrounds banned them from moving outside the purview of the village.
State authority has constructed five barracks for the SPOs but no arms supply till date but they expressed their willingness to arm and involve in the protecting the three villages which where villagers are banned from moving out and drew the attention of the government in issuing arms to them.
A SPO said that government has not supplied uniforms, shoes etc.
for a long time.
The amount given to them is also not suited with time.
They are getting only Rs 3570 per month including Rs 570 as ration money.
Out of 300 SPOs recruited from the villages 10 had already joined to IRB around 15 months back.
The team also visited KM Blooming School at Khangabok and held interaction with teachers and students there.
When asked about any extortion demand, the principal said they are facing monetary demands served by undergrounds at many occasions.
On the way to Moreh, the media team was received by the DC Chandel, A Dilip, SP, K Radheshyam.
They also visited Tamu on the Myanmar side.
After taking stoke of the ground reality, the media team met with state chief secretary, DS Poonia and DGP, Y Joykumar again last night and left Imphal today.
The team included special correspondent of Indian Express, Amitabh Sinha, reporter of Press Trust of India (PTI), principal correspondent of Times of India, Arun Dixit and ANI reporter etc.
They also visited Tamu on the Myanmar side.
