Imphal, March 30 2010: Alertness of Sekmai police station personnel has yet again foiled a possible trafficking of children from Manipur yesterday, as a group of six teenagers hailing from Ukhrul district were prevented from proceding further from the check gate.

With the police personnel on duty not satisfied with the explanation of the girls on their purpose for leaving the state all six were handed over to their respective family on Tuesday.

Mention may be made that on March 24 atleast 10 children were rescued by the police from the same police station at the same spot during routine checking at their check-post.

According to a police source, the Sekmai police personnel on their routine checking stumbled upon six girls (between 16-18 years) traveling in a bus without a guide or an elder accompanying them, at around 10.30 am yesterday.

All the girls hailing from Ukhrul district in Manipur were handed over to the State's social welfare department on the same day after thorough investigation, disclosed the source.

In the course of their investigation, the police came to know that the girls were heading for Chennai as their last destination.

Before being handed over to their respective families, all the girls along with their parents were given counseling by the Child Line experts, said the police source.
