IMPHAL: The Union health and family welfare ministry has agreed to set up a dental hospital in Manipur.
The state does not have any dental hospital barring the dental departments in the Centre-run Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (Rims) and the newly-established Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (Jnims).
Manipur heath minister L Jayantakumar Singh and health commissioner Moses Challai approached officials of the ministry for setting up a dental hospital during a meeting at Nirmal Bhavan in New Delhi on Wednesday, said a statement issued by Manipur Information Centre in the national capital. The ministry officials asked to submit a concept paper for the project, the statement said, adding that Jayantakumar assured them of sending it after discussing the matter with state officials.
Jayantakumar also met the secretary-cum-director general of National AIDS Control Organization (Naco)Sayan Chatterjee and had a discussion on the alarming spread of HIV/Aids in Manipur's Moreh town in Chandel district.
During the meeting, they discussed about illegal flesh trade and blood transfusion in the border areas which are major factors responsible for spread of the epidemic snd decided to take up appropriate measures on the matter, added the statement.
