IMPHAL, Feb 13 : A team of the Manipur State Commission for Women, MSCW, headed by its chairperson Dr. Ch Jamini visited areas inhabited by Muslims in Manipur on February 6 and enquired into the lifestyle, means of livelihood and the works done by its womenfolks.
The areas visited by the team included Khabeisoi, Khomidok, Chingarel, Urup, Arapti, Lilong Atukhong, Atukhong Khunou, Kairang, Nanthel, Paodel, Kawkta, Chandrakhong, Leihoukhong, Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai, Turel Ahanbi, Tairelmakhong and Kyamgei.
The commission heard the grievances of the Muslim women who narrated the problems faced by them in old age and that of pregnancy. They said their occupation was only poultry rearing.
The women were not aware that there was a women`s commission like the MSCW which they could approach. They further said that there was no proper health centre and schools available where they lived.
The chairperson promised that she would recommend to the state government provision for water supply in their areas.
