Imphal, Aug. 11 : Suspected cadres of the Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front attacked the residence of the deputy director of tribal development department, Solomon Zingkhai, at Nagaram on the outskirts of Imphal during curfew hours last night.
The official today told the media that his driver, A.S. Reisangmi, was slightly injured in the face when the grenade hurled from outside the gate exploded in the courtyard of the house.
Zingkhai said he suspected the Manipur Naga Revolutionary Front to be behind the attack. He said the group had demanded three per cent of the funds from all development programmes taken up by the tribal development department.
“The beneficiaries of the schemes were selected by a selection committee. I could not make any cut of the development fund and could not pay the group. These attacks on houses should be stopped,” the official appealed to all armed groups.
Villagers of Nagaram also appealed to all sections of people not to terrorise civilians by exploding grenades in residential areas.
The attack came as police were trying to locate the whereabouts and rescue Thangjam Muhindro Singh, a child development project officer of the state social welfare department.
The official was abducted by a militant group from his village of Hararou in Imphal East on July 29.
