Imphal, Jul 29 : Three persons, including two women, were held by Manipur police today for allegedly bringing in eight children to the state to use them for begging and other purposes.
Imphal East police said the accused, Nandu Vaid (35), his wife Tamater (35) and another woman Kamakhya, all hailing from Jalpaiguri in west Bengal, were held after a complaint from the State Child Welfare Committee.
Eight children, between the age group of four to eight, were brought by them from their state and forced to do various illegal activities.
The trio were produced before a court today and remanded to 14 day police custody for violation of Juvenile Justice Act.
The children would be sent back to their respective places.
