Imphal, July 26 2009: The economic blockade imposed by a tribal student body on the highways in Manipur has been relaxed for 24-hour- from 5 am of Monday even as over 70 goods carrying trucks have been escorted to Imphal by the state security force Sunday.
The All Tribal Students' Union Manipur announced the 24-hour relaxation to the indefinite economic blockde in response to the appeal made by the All Manipur Road Transport Drivers' and Motor workers' Union, said a statement of the union signed by assistant general secretary Robert Leivon dispatched to the media today.
The relaxation has been given so as good carrying trucks stranded at Khuzuma of Nagaland bordering with Mao of Manipur be able to proceed.
The drivers union also gave assurance/commitment that they will not ply their vehicles till the economic blockade is called off by the ATSUM, the statement said.
"The union on humanitarian ground relaxes the economic blockade for 24-hours starting from 5 am of Monday the 27th 2009.All stranded tata truck and LPG bullet tankers will be allowed passage during the relaxation period," the statement added.
However, the same blockade will resume again from 5 am of Tuesday with intensified form and any incident arising out of violation of the blockade by the truckers will be the sole responsibility of the All Manipur Transport Drivers' and Motor Workers' Union, the statement warned.
Meanwhile, as many as 70 loaded trucks carrying essential commodities have proceeded Imphal with escort provided by the personnel of the 2nd Manipur Rifles led by an assistant commandant, police report said.
However, more than 60 numbers of trucks arriving there today have against stranded at Khuzuma, late report received from Mao said.

Bodies condemn killing
Imphal, February 28 : While condemning the killing of Dr Th Kishan, Y Token and A Rajen, Tangkhul Union, Senapati Kangleipak, Lamjing Apunba Meira Lup, Manipur People's Party, Heingang Kendra, Global Mission for Human Resources and Social Information, Loyalam Apunba Nupi Lup, Churachandpur United Clubs Organisation, Khoidum Village Development Association, Janata Dal (Secular) Manipur, Ching-Tam Women's Association, All Manipur Government College Teachers' Association demanded to award befitting punishment to the culprits who are in NSCN (IM) custody.
A joint meeting of All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), AMSU and DESAM held yesterday at Modhu Girls' Junior High School also condemned the brutal killing of the three Government officials.
The meeting also demanded to terminate Ukhrul DC and SP from their services and book under the law of the land.
The State Chief Minister and Union Home Minister are also indirectly responsible for the killing, the meeting observed.
The joint meeting also urged the general public to maintain communal harmony at this crucial juncture.
Meanwhile, womenfolk of Huidrom Meira Paibi staged sit-in-protest against the killing at Huidrom today.
