Imphal, January 17 2010: The best way to check gender discrimination is to educate all concerned that man and woman are both human beings, said Prof Ksh Bimola, department of political science of Manipur University.
Speaking as president of a consultative meeting on 'Role of Media in Combating Violence against Women' organised by the Women's Action for Development today at the Conference Hall of Hotel Imphal, Prof Bimola said that the society where women took active role in economic development is a developed society.
Chief guest of the function, eminent theatre director, Birjit Ngangom said, the ethos to undermine women and discriminate them has retarded the growth of the society.
Irengbam Arun, editor of Ereibak spoke as resource person of the meeting.
Gender Journalist Award was also awarded on the occasion in connection with the International Fortnight Observation Protesting Violence against Women from November 25 to December 12 .
Beidyajit Sharma of Ereibak bagged the first prize of the Gender Journalist Award while the second prize was won by Ng Liklai Leima of The Sangai Express.
Th Premchand of Poknapham was declared the third prize winner.
N Sanajaoba Meitei of Hueiyen Lanpao and Hemchandra Salam of Paojel won the consolation prize.
