Tamenglong, December 7 : The first ever of Men Conference under Rongmei Naga Baptist Association, RNBA held in Tamenglong Baptist Church complex since December 3 was concluded here today under the theme Maturing Toward Faithfulness.
Thousands of Christians gathered here today on the last day to join the occasion.
Out of 174 churches, as many as 52 churches of RNBA came to participate in the four day long men conference.
In the meantime, Dr Daisok R Panmei, Executive Director of New Hope Ministry, India told this correspondent this afternoon on the side of the conference that men and women are equal and a society which shows respect to woman is regarded as developed society and that society commands respect from all.
While making decision the women should be included, he said.
He also said that family is very important school and institution where good and bad society depends upon.
If families are good, naturally the society will be good.
He went on to say that Rongmei society have bad custom that men usually become a dictator in the family.
This bad custom should be removed from our society, he said.

Timothy Phaomei, Pastor RNBACC Imphal were the speakers of the first ever men conference of the RNBA.
While giving his exhortation speech Dr.Kinthuijin Mariamei, Vice Principal of Tamenglong College said that on seeing the performance of the conference the Rongmei are no longer illiterate, all men seem educated as compare with the bygone ages.
Rongmei tribe has rich cultures.
However, almost all the customs lost due to the influence of Christianity.
He urged all men to utilize all land resources to educate the Children before they are exploited by others.
He further appealed all men never to sleep till 6 o clock in the morning, instead keep on writing, reading, singing and reveal what you know to children's who are the nation builders.
"Remember your past and build your future", Dr.Kinthuijin said.
On the other hand the Committee on Local Arrangement (COLA) expressed their gratitude to all the participants of first ever men conference held this year and sent Christmas and New Year greetings.

Tamenglong Fishery Department fund misapproprition alleged
Imphal, September 09, 2009: Tamenglong Public Forum while alleging the District Fishery Department of misappropriating the funds sanctioned for fishery development in the district, urged the general public and concerned higher authority to cooperate with the body in bringing out the malpractices in light.
Maintaining that lakhs of money have been released by the Central Government for implementation of Fish Farmers Development Agency, the forum alleged that not even a single pisiculture project has been implemented in the district so far.
The body further alleged that the Department purchased fishes from the farmers of valley areas and exhibited at the stalls of Tamenglong district during fish melas organised in connection with Ningol Chakkouba every year.
If it continues, the forum cautioned, there is no need for setting up of so many ngayok marups in the district.

IDF bandh cripples hill districts
Ukhrul, Churachandpurpur, Tamenglong, July 18 : Normal live in the five hill districts of Manipur remained crippled today, following the 12 hours general strike imposed by the Indigenous Democratic Front (IDF) from 6 am to 6pm, demanding early election to the Autonomous District Councils.
At Ukhrul, all shops downed shutters while attendance in Government offices was thin.
Vehicles stayed off the road and inter State bus service suspended service for the day.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, general secretary of IDF, WS Shimray, questioned the tribal MLAs about their promise made during their electioneering regarding early conduct of ADC election.
President of IDF, Ngachonmi Chamroy, also questioned the sincerity of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) and the SPF Government.
WS Shimray also thanked the TKS, TMNL, TSL, TNWL, THYSO, HKL and all the IDF volunteers for extending their cooperation in making the 12 hours bandh a success.
The bandh also affected normal life in Churachandpur.
Except for the stray movements and security vehicles, the streets in the proper township of Lamka remained deserted.
However in some adjoining localities the bandh was not that effective as shops and vendors managed to carry on their normal business.
Educational institutions and emergency service were exempted from the bandh purview but most of the schools observed the day as a holiday, anticipating transportation snag for its students.
Calling their bandh call a success and thanking the public for their co-operation, the district executive of IDF later today told a press conference that their agitation will continue, until that time, the Government declares a definite date for the ADC election.
The bandh call today was part of their agitation in demanding the implementation of the Constitutional mandate for the hill tribes of the district, but the immediate purpose, was to press the HAC that will be meeting tomorrow to adopt the ADC agendas without any amendment, they said.
On the often conflicting stands adopted by different groups championing ADC elections, IDF's Vice President Mangnchinkhup said, it was due to the encroachment of narrow minded politics.
Those who perceive our cause in a narrow communal angle will not espouse us, he said.

Free software movement launched with grand show
IMPHAL, Jul 05: FOSS 2009, the mega IT Talent Search and LINUX or Free and Open Source Software gathering organized by Linux Manipur, in association with Department of Computer Science, Manipur University (MU) concluded today with more than 300 students and teachers participating from various school across the state including from Arunachal Pradesh and the day began with IT Talent Search examination.
The show was held at Don Bosco School, Chingmeirong and nine children from all nine districts of the state lighted the ceremonial lamp before beginning of the second session.
Roger Ahongshangbam talked about Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). And it was followed by encouraging speeches by O. Ibomcha, the Head of Department, Computer Science Manipur University, Father PX Francis, Principal of Don Bosco School, S. Tejmani, Reader, Manipur University Computer Science Department and Deepak Shijagurumayum the volunteer of Linux Manipur talked about Linux Manipur and its vision.
Father Francis who feel wonderful to see all the excitement amongst the students around FOSS 2009 believe that the FOSS IT talent search will go a long way in creating a benchmark in the growth of IT in the state of Manipur.
In this computer age everybody should know how to operate a computer said Vitoo Oinam who is pursuing his 10th standard from St. Joseph School a participant of today’s talent search.
While K. Hemabati of Moirang and Heman Kavita of Ningthoukhong said “We aspire to become software engineers and came to give the test. We did not expect the seminars and talks would be there, but we are so happy to attend the seminars from which we learn lots. The question aren’t tough and aren’t easy too but it was moderate. So, we want this event to take place every year.”
Rajkumar Panthoiren who also participated in today’s talent search also maintained the seminar has given more awareness about Linux.
FOSS 2009 showcased and demonstrated Linux installation, conducted technical talks of Linux, video clips of interviews of the legends and pioneers of FOSS and technical quiz. Students from Bishnupur, Imphal East and West, Senapati, Tamenglong, Thoubal, Ukhrul, Chandel and Churachandpur participated in the event.
Having successfully organized two chapters of FOSS in the last two years and seeing the overwhelming response not just from the students and their parents, but also from members, inspired individuals who have come forward with donations, business houses that have supported the event in the last two chapters. We are also determining to bring another chapter of FOSS to the people who matter and the realization that there can be no greater joy than assisting and supporting those who needs exposure to IT and FOSS said S. Deepak a volunteer of Linux Manipur who highlighted about Linux Manipur and its vision.
He further noted that Linux Manipur is a virtual organization, whose primary aims is to create and spread awareness for Linux or FOSS in Manipur and the North East. It focuses and seeks to help and guide the students and computer users, share domain knowledge, discuss technical issues etc.

Medical team in Tamenglong to curb malaria
Imphal, July 5 : Along with detection of two new positive cases of Malaria in Tipaimukh area of Churachandpur district, a medical team has been rushed there to monitor the situation.
According to information received from the State Vector Borne Disease Control Society, which is responsible for Malaria control programme in the State, though there is no report of any death and the situation is not so alarming, medical teams have been send to collect blood samples and monitor the situation.
Now being the season of breeding Malarial parasite, such stray cases of Malaria is quite normal.
But care should be taken up to ensure it does not become an epidemic and the affected people should seek proper medication, sources said.
Sources further informed that medical teams have also been fanned out to other Malaria prone areas like Tousem in Tamenglong district, Vangai Range in Churachandpur district and Kamjong and Khamasom in Ukhrul district for taking up necessary precautionary measures.
As for the outbreak of Malaria reported from Taothong area of Imphal West district some days earlier, the situation has been brought fully under control, sources said, adding that blood samples of 300 students of the area tested negative.
Meanwhile, apart from normal exercise like fogging and sensitisation programme to control Malaria, State Vector Borne Disease Control Society has successfully bred adequate quantity of Larvivorous fishes of Gambusia Affinis and Guppy varieties, which feed on mosquito larvae, for free distribution among the people who would like to contribute their mite in the ongoing efforts towards controlling Malaria in the State.
In this regard, officials of the State Malaria Office at Lamphel explained that these Larvivorous fishes should be released in stagnant water bodies including tanks, ponds, drains and even puddles, which are possible breeding grounds of Malarial parasites.
These fishes are highly procreative and an adult can produce fingerlings in thousands every three days.
However, these fishes are not meant for human consumption, they said.

Quraishi reviews poll preparations in Manipur
Imphal, Apr 10 : Election Commissioner Dr S Y Quraishi arrived here today to oversee poll preparedness in view of the coming Lok Sabha elections.
The Election Commissioner discussed issues related to poll preparedness, communication plans, vulnerabilities mapping, use of helicopters for airlifting, EVMs and security arrangement.
Dr Quraishi made it clear that the candidates should follow the model code of conduct and that actions will be taken against those violating the code.
”The election office will be using helicopters specially in the hill areas of Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati districts.
”About 20,000 state security personnel and 65 companies of Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF) will be deployed on election duty,” he said, adding that security arrangements for the polls had been satisfactory.
The Inner Manipur has 32 Assembly segments with 970 polling stations.
The Assembly segment having highest number of electors is Moirang with 32,699 voters, while the one with lowest numbers of electors is Thanga with 19,842 voters.
In Inner Manipur, a total of 8,26,539 will exercise their franchise.
In Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary constituency there are 28 Assembly segments and 1,223 polling stations.
The Assembly Segment having highest number of electors is Mao with 49,632 voters and the one with lowest number of electors is Tipaimukh (ST) with 17,527 voters.
The total number of voters is 9,09,332 .

Poor turn out for EVM training at Tamenglong

TAMENGLONG, Mar 25 : Election time is a punishment for government employees, especially the school headmasters and assistant teachers who are engaged in the election process. A date was fixed and notice was served for training of the presiding and polling officers for handling of electronic voting machines and smooth conduct of up coming Lok Sabha elections. However, very few personnel turned up for the training today.
As many as 694 polling officers and presiding officers were supposed to undergo training but only 297 turned up today, out of which there were 103 presiding officers, 96 polling officer (1) and 98 polling officers (2).
The returning officer while speaking to the IFP said that the officers who did not turn up for training today must attend tomorrow (March 25), failing which disciplinary action would be taken up against them. The security teams will start arriving by the next week, the official added.
The district administration is going to engage around 720 personnel from different departments, including school headmasters and assistant teachers. Out of this number, 650 personnel will be utilized for duty and other 70 will be kept as reserve, the official source said.
Some school headmasters and assistant teachers have been engaged from the very beginning of preparation for elections and normal classes in many schools have been disturbed. Starting from enumerators, taking census addition and deletion and till the voting day and counting, the school headmasters and assistant teachers are used as tools of the government though the teachers’ duty is only to bring quality education, said the Tamenglong District Teachers Association and District Council Teachers Association members during an interview.
Involvement in election duty is also our duty and we cannot deny it, a teacher said. “To attend the training my school has announced holidays for the children,” narrated one headmaster adding that “with bad infrastructure and shortage of teachers along with all other disturbances we cannot bring quality education.”
A teacher suggested that if the government picks up one school headmaster or assistant teacher from each school, the normal classes would not be disturbed.

The organisations also called a 24-hour general strike in the district from 6 pm of February 18 to February 19 to show resentment over the callous act.
The memorandum demanded for immediate actions from the authority concerned to book the culprits.
The memorandum also demanded appropriate action from the State Govt to ensure not to happen such incident in future.
The memorandum submitted through Deputy Commissioner was jointly signed by the representatives of Zeliangrong Women's Union, Zeliangrong Students' Union Manipur, Zeliangrong Students' Union, Tamenglong district, Zeliangrong Youth Front, Tamenglong.
