Imphal, Apr 10 : Election Commissioner Dr S Y Quraishi arrived here today to oversee poll preparedness in view of the coming Lok Sabha elections.
The Election Commissioner discussed issues related to poll preparedness, communication plans, vulnerabilities mapping, use of helicopters for airlifting, EVMs and security arrangement.
Dr Quraishi made it clear that the candidates should follow the model code of conduct and that actions will be taken against those violating the code.
”The election office will be using helicopters specially in the hill areas of Ukhrul, Tamenglong, Chandel, Churachandpur, Senapati districts.
”About 20,000 state security personnel and 65 companies of Central Paramilitary Forces (CPMF) will be deployed on election duty,” he said, adding that security arrangements for the polls had been satisfactory.
The Inner Manipur has 32 Assembly segments with 970 polling stations.
The Assembly segment having highest number of electors is Moirang with 32,699 voters, while the one with lowest numbers of electors is Thanga with 19,842 voters.
In Inner Manipur, a total of 8,26,539 will exercise their franchise.
In Outer Manipur (ST) Parliamentary constituency there are 28 Assembly segments and 1,223 polling stations.
The Assembly Segment having highest number of electors is Mao with 49,632 voters and the one with lowest number of electors is Tipaimukh (ST) with 17,527 voters.
The total number of voters is 9,09,332 .
