Singjamei bandh called over controversial death

Imphal, May 21 : The committee formed on the killing of Loitongbam Satish alias Tomba Singh of Singjamei has called a 12-hour bandh in the Singjamei area, including the National Highway-39, on May 21 from 6 am to 6 pm for alleged failure of the government to respond positively to the committee`s demands.

The decision was taken today during a meeting held at the Singjamei Oinam Thingel following the negative response of the government to the charter of demands submitted to the chief minister of Manipur on Tuesday. Further, the meeting also adopted resolutions which include clarification from the government within 24 hours regarding the particulars of Satish joining any militant organization operating in the state as charged by the government.

Further, it also urged for a Cabinet decision on the prevention of killings of innocent civilians in the state and also for punishing those security personnel involved in the killings as per the law within 24 hours.

While speaking to media persons, Oinam Ibochouba, an active functionary of the committee disclosed that the committee would intensify its agitation with support from the public all over the state if the government fails to fulfill the demands within 24 hour.

On the other hand, Pebam Gunindro, the companion of late Satish was remanded to police custody till May 23 today after he was produced in the court of Dr. Shantibala, in-charge CJM of Imphal.

However, the police whisked away Gunindro from the court after the remand was announced, giving no chance to the media persons present at Lamphel to interview him.

It may be recalled that miscreants using a bullet proof Gypsy of the police commando personnel allegedly kidnapped Satish along with Gunindro on May 16 near Sajiwa jail. Later, Satish was reportedly killed in an encounter by a combined force of Thoubal district police commandos and 23 Assam Rifles at Laikoi Ching under Lamlai police station at about 6.30 pm on Monday. However, P Gunindro was handed over to the Lamlai police by the 23rd Assam Rifles on Tuesday on the charge that he is an activist of the PLA, along with two Chinese hand grenade detonators and five live rounds of AK.

The Lamlai police has registered an FIR no. 38(5)2009 LLI .Ps under section 20 u,a (p) Amendment Act `04 & 25(1-C) A. Act.

Meanwhile, Gunindros` wife P Babita said that the charge levelled by the police was unacceptable as her husband was an innocent civilian who has no connection with any underground outfit of Manipur.
